the death of the music industry. sort of.

Today's chart is courtesy of the Silicon Alley Insider and illustrates the death of the music industry by time and units shipped. As you can see, not even the digital format can offset the death of the CD. It is becoming increasingly clear that the music itself is just going to be a marketing tool for a band's merchandise and ticket sales. So the music industry itself isn't dying, it is just evolving.
