TechCrunch covered the launch of a very cool new video player for the iPad and iPhone by ConditionOne that gives the viewer a 180 degree look inside the video allowing one to pan and tilt the device to change the perspective and see what is going on all around them in this virtual world. Created by wartime photographer Danfung Dennis and backed by Mark Cuban, this application is already attracting the attention of big brands such as Mercedes, Discovery Communications, XL Recordings, The Guardian, and Popular Science. echograph, the instagram of animated gifs.

According to Wired we have been warned, animated GIFs are making a comeback. Echograph is a new iPad application that animates Instagram"ish" images and animates them GIF-style. Whether or not this will catch on is hard to predict since it involves additional hardware, but you have to admit it is darn catchy.

Here’s how it works: You shoot a video, select a five-second clip, and choose one still as the main frame. Next, use your finger to erase part of the image. That portion of the frozen image is replaced by video playing on an endless loop. The result? Hybrid images that keep your eye guessing.

NASA has just released the first images from the Solar Dynamics Observatory and they are amazing. This image shows an extreme ultraviolet image of the sun. The false colors trace different gas images. Wow. Visit the Solar Dynamics Observatory page to see more incredible images and films.

On a recent flight from Amsterdam to San Francisco, James Leng noticed the cities below glowing through the clouds and decided to set up his camera in an empty seat and shoot time-lapse photos with a range of exposures over three hours.
