collecta. social search. real-time(ly).

Taking yesterday's post one step further, we can now actively search the social media stream which we otherwise passively view. Introducing Collecta, a great tool for specifically searching blog posts, comments on blog posts, articles, Twitter, Flickr, YouTube, etc. in real-time. “Instead of finding old stuff, we look for mentions of your search term happening right now.” They also have a tool for you to build a customizable Collecta widget for your Web site. Very cool.

Today also brought the news that as anticipated, real-time search is having a big impact. This article from PCWorld atributes the recent rise in Twitter traffic to Google having included real-time search results since December of 2009. According to comScore, Twitter set a record in January for most unique visitors in a single month.
